This Monitors give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Excellent "Prosumer" Monitor
After nearly two months of living with this monitor I think I can write a long winded report on it.
I'm the guy this monitor was designed for, a graphic designer. This monitor is used for web, photography and fine artwork reproduction purposes. I don't really do video games or movies on my PC, so you'll need to turn to some other reviewers here or elsewhere for opinions for the frame rate and ghosting issues. However, you're here mostly because you're looking for a wide gamut monitor that produces 100% of the sRGB space, and 98% Adobe RGB - 130% more than most TFT type monitors.
I've been staring at graphics monitors since 1982 starting with Barco's that were 12" across and 20" deep. They could give you a tan. Finally when Macs became real workhorses in the late 80's, we started to see a range of consumer based color monitors with great color reproduction. I worked mostly with the "big" 15" Apples for a few years. Then after a short stint with some NEC's in 1995...
2. Buy this and you're asking for trouble
I owned the PA246 since december 2011 and it barely made survived 10 months. It came with quite a few hot pixels, and the lower left corner was hotter than the rest. I could sorta live with it. And then out of the blue, it just didn't turn on.
I mailed it to Asus repair in Fontana, CA, quite within warranty (a supposed 3 years) and they refused to work on it. When I asked them to sell me a discounted refurb model, they refused. When I asked for the part that needed replacing so I could do it myself, they didn't reply. To top it off, they next dayed my broken monitor back to me. Well thanks for nothing. I wouldn't recommended Asus to anyone as they will screw you come replacement time. Save your money for something better. Asus isn't it.
Update:
Customer retention got in touch with me having posted more poor reviews. The techs told them the damage was so severe, that every part had to be replaced. Apparently there were photos. The problem...
Need more appointment... ?
Excellent, yet Poor
This monitor has great features and excellent screen quality... with beautiful 10-bit color and contrast.
The downside: Asus has horrible quality control with this specific model. I'm not sure about their other monitors, but it's a gamble whether or not you will get a good monitor. I went through 3 monitors, which all had bright pixels, stuck pixels, dead pixels. The third monitor had flickering issues. It would continually flash for no reason and randomly turn off and on. Sometimes it would flicker repeatedly for an hour. Other times it would work just fine. There are videos on YouTube depicting this issue. The third defective monitor was enough...
I'm currently looking for a better monitor. Asus: get your act together - there is no reason why you should be selling so many defective monitors. These monitors need to be properly inspected before being shipped out to retailers. It's a shame because I really wanted to keep this monitor!
